i'd definetly get rid of the carpet. Its way to flamable and fuzzy;) sound deadner pads r should b easily got @ ne parts store
I did a little experiment today...
I gutted my air box last weekend and noticed some good performance gains.
I also noticed that my intake noise completely drowned out the sound of my race exhaust.
so... I did this...
20 minutes
hot glue

I didn't expect this to solve all my problems but,. I also didn't want to go spend gobs of money on sound deadening material only to find that it does absolutely nothing.
well, I definitely noticed a difference. It may not have been a whole lot quieter but, it no longer sounds like someone is pounding an empty milk jug with a drumstick.
It lost a lot of that empty, "plasticky" sound. Which is enough change for me... Carpet wasn't primarily designed to be a sound deadening material anyways.
So now, on to bigger things. I'm going to try and pick up some of this stuff

Then some of this stuff to put on top of the thick mat.

I'll let you all know how it turns out!
If worse comes to worse, I'm sure a big fat turbo would solve the problem :D

I like this idea. When I mount my shoyomoto airbox cover, I may do something like this.
dyna mat sound deadner works well.
little safer hot glue and heat is not a great combo

Why do I get this terrible feeling that the hot glue is going to give on the one that is directly on top while going down the road and fall right on the velocity stack...
great idea and I understand (i hope) that this is mostly a trial mock up.... High strength 2 part epoxy and dynamat gets my vote
^^ The filter is still there!
oh yeah i always forget that even with the open airbox mod the filter still has that top cover thingy my bad :p
Google home depot sound deadening. I used that stuff to quiet down my Datsun 510 and it worked really good. Its like a roof trim sealer with a really sticky black side and an aluminum sheet over it. Forgot the brand i bought but similar products should do the samething.
crap ^^ i should of thought of that when i was walking around HD. I didnt figure i would be able to buy a small quantity of anything there though. Everything is in huge rolls.
oh well...
I ordered some acoustical wall padding and the thick adhesive mat stuff for about 20 shipped on ebay.
I DO, however, like the idea of that aluminum surface. I see that standing up to the heat better than simple acoustical wall padding.
