>>>do I need to set the engine switch to "run" in order to see the codes?
Yes
Hi, my check engine light comes on intermittently when I'm riding and the indicator lights flicker as well. I've tried to check the error codes by using the diagnostic plug which I believe is located under the seat on '09s as indicated in the picture. I'm using a wire to short the two pins but I'm not getting the blinking lights with the codes like I think I should be. Am I doing it wrong? My understanding is that I need to connect the two pins then turn the ignition switch on, do I need to set the engine switch to "run" in order to see the codes? Any help would be appreciated.

Flip it to run, and just touch the two pins till the check engine light starts blinking, you DONT have to hold the wire touching the pins the whole time.
That worked like a charm - thanks for the info.:D
The Check Engine lights up continuously. I check the manual and it says to check the ground. I did that and it still lights up. What can i do? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

would a loose o2 sensor cause this error #66???
Are you sure it's 66? No 66 in my 2008 electrical diagnostic manual.
