Fuel light comes on with tank full of fuel. ???

Noticed the other day my fuel light come on after only driving 80+ miles after fuel-up. I knew I had just fueled but stopped again to get fuel. After only able to add about 2 gallons, I wondered what was up.. Now it comes on and off during ride home and work. Im having to watch my mileage now and fuel-up after 150-175 miles. Any ideas that this could be? I could not find any sensors in the service manual that I can check or replace. Any opinions or info greatly appreciated. Thx. ML
