the bike is an 03 xb12r with an 06 engine. so im sure its something i screwed up in the engine swap... where should i start the trouble shooting.

5 mph off at what speed.its normal for the speedo to be off any where between 3-8 percent on most bikes.

i dont think 5mph is a huge deal on a bike i think ive read tire wear can cause variations of +or-5

Different manufacturers will set their speedometers at different settings. If you are able to mount a gps to your bike somehow and ride see how fast it says you are going. I don't know how accurate these are, but it is a way to test.

well its deff off by more that 5 today. my friend said we were doing 48mph and my spedo said 60. i think ill try to find a way to mount the gps and go for a ride.

i no his spedo is right ive followed him in my truck before and it was all good.

is there anything that i should look at to maybe calibrate orr am i just rely going to have to deal with it.

maybe you could pull the needle and try to reset it. i had to adjust mine when it changed the dash plate.
