^^Bartone's fix is the way to go. My Aprilia with a Rotax engine had the exact same problem (A LOT of them did), and the way to fix it was with a stator rewind and a better regulator/rectifier. The problem is the heat produced by the stator and the way the stock r/r works. Get it rewound, and buy the CompuFire. End of problem.
I understand how Gaucher feels--I wanted to shoot my Aprilia a couple times myself. But ask yourself this question, Gaucher: where can can you buy as exclusive and exotic a bike as your Buell for anywhere close to $5,000? They are so ridiculously under-valued right now that investing another couple grand even would still make for a bargain-priced exotic. And if expensive upkeep for issues that "should have been handled by the factory" scares you, DEFINITELY stay away from BMW, Ducati, and KTM. All three of those have had me scratching my head and reaching for my Benelli from time to time... Lol.
I love my XB12, but I've been eye-balling an 1125... After I get my xb12STT, a CR will probably follow--with me jumping in eyes wide open.

Laugh all you want, my Buell is my favorite, has been the most reliable, and guess which one draws the most questions and thumbs-up?
The Duke?
Nope. My xb12S. That SuperDuke 990R is a cool bike, but it's not what I thought it would be. I actually had more hooligan fun on my old 2001 Duke. And my Buell is easier to wheelie... ;)
The SuperDuke seat is rock hard, there are no passenger provisions, and the service is expensive (I don't do the valves on that one). Should have bought a 1098 when I could have afforded it instead of this one...
The little Monster is the wife's , but I maintain it, so I thought I'd throw it in there... LOL!!
hey rhino, if you have a money tree that you need help picking feel free to hit me up. killer bike collection man!
I wish... the Duc is the wife's, and the BMW R1100S was bought for a relative song. I had to work hard for the rest (and give up having a nice car... :)hey rhino, if you have a money tree that you need help picking feel free to hit me up. killer bike collection man!
