straps still available from mother H-D for around $14.50 or so. personally i'd get one and use it. why risk having the battery jump out of its holder and causing problems for the price of an inexpensive part?
Got an 09 city x and popped the seat off yesterday to put the tail bag onwhen I noticed the rubber strap holding the battery down was snapped. Took it off and put the seat back on... No big deal right?....
I know the bike is subject to high vibration, but the battery seems heavy enough to stay in place and with the seat over it, Im thinking the battery cant go anywhere.
Any thoights as to why I should scramble for a new strap? It doesnt seem THAT important... I will replace when I get around to it, just not a priority right now.
Anybody disagree or see a pro lem riding without it strapped down?
Any creative fixes out there?

Meh, I dont think its a huge deal. It could **** with the terminal connections, but thats prolly an over time kinda deal. I would jimmy rig it for the present until u decide to replace the strap.
I have a spare could send it to you for like 10 bucks? Let me know otherwise it's gobna sit in my basement forever.
You don't want your batt. bouncing around too much, if the plates inside touch you'll get a dead cel. Some guys (it's on my list) use a Velcro stap...
I been without a strap for the past 15k miles, no issues so far. There really isn't much room under there for the battery to move around anyway.
That's a pretty big honking deal, could hit a bump so big it could unbolt your seat and end up in the e.r. with a battery up your ass in triage.
I heard they will total your bike if the strap breaks
ive never had on on mine.
