Well, I have joined the ranks of buellsters that have had to tear their motors out for a complete rebuild. I haven't done much photo taking of the disassembly process, but I will have alot of pics following the rebuild process as I am doing a ground up rebuild.

So far, I have ordered a ton of parts that have arrived here at my shop and most are engine bits. I figured while its apart, and i get a massive discount through drag specialties and parts unlimited, I'd take advantage of it and put it on my parts account at work.

    The list includes:
Revolution Performance Big Bore 1250 kit (black with buzzed edges)
    Accel wires
    Feuling beehive springs
    Feuling Hp+ lifters
    Full Cometic gasket set
    Case Repaint in Semi-Gloss Black
WB o2 Sensors on front and rear cyl
    Black Ceramic coated header
Blue and white LED accent kit (blue for show, white for driving to be legal and be more visible.

Pics to follow and if anyone has any recommendations of things to do or get, im all ears. All the parts total out to a tick over $1400 including a new Q2 qualifier rear. Was thinking cams, but im really unsure of what to do, and how wild i truely want to get.... Now for some pics of the buell porn!!!!

    The tear down

    The Issues were found

    The engine disassembled

    The goodies (sofar)

It will be a week or so before the cases get to the blaster and i get them all painted. Once thats done, it should go back together rather quickly.

Should be sometime really soon. Bad thing is I just saw that wave rotors are sold in the drag specialties catalog... oh boy!

Still debating the cams question... waiting for people to give me a recommendation. I love the "potato" sound of a cammed v-twin, but im still trying to stay streetable and have good gas mileage.

Awesome, I'll be keeping an eye on this one. How many miles and what failed? Looks like it munched a rod bearing? Any strange noises prior to this, or anything specific that caused it?

Looks like a good build - might want to consider headwork over cams though!

Doh, shows what I know. That sucks, at least the bottom end is solid. You going through the bottom end while its apart? Or leaving it and just fixing the trans issue/upgraded jugs & cylinders?

Yes. I had lots of forewarning to this issue.

First it started slipping out of third gear under hard acceleration. Then its started just not working at all. Then I started to get some clattering in the cases, then last but not least i got some really load clattering, and issues putting it into neutral.

It was due to me not fully pulling my foot off the shift selector and holding it there (never adjusted it to the new alpinestars boots and I think this was the direct result) Either way, time to rebuild....

yeah, we are going to press all teh bearings out. As well, im going to check the crank and make sure its alright, and if not, its going off to Rev perf to get "the treatment" done.

As for the cams, I think im gonig to leave it be and just get some slight head work done to get it cleaned up and eek out a lil more power

your build is great, once my xb no longer shifts (2nd is getting iffy) i was trying to decide on a rebuild like you or replace the engine with a low milage one from a doner.
either way your build inspires me
