intake leak possibly, or just do a TPS reset
Hi,
Recently purchased an '06 firebolt. When you start it up it idles normally at around 1200 RPM. After riding for 10 - 15 minutes the idle goes up to around 2200 RPM. If you give it a blip of gas sometimes the idle settles down to 1200 again (sometimes take 3 or 4 tries) so I don't think it's because the idle is set too high. Any thoughts on what this might be?
thanks,
jason

Your idle is set too high. Get it to normal operating temp. THAN adjust idle to just below 1000 RPM. If still no good than look to intake leak...I don't think it's because the idle is set too high. Any thoughts on what this might be?
I would do a tps reset and adjust the idle via ecmspy(at operating temperature like said above) then see how it acts. I agree there's a good chance it's intake seals leaking.
Yeah. Will have a look at that. My impression is that it is running very hot too. Almost burns my leg off after 1/2 hour.
j.
TPS reset. then get it Idling at 1000 rpm.
Once at 1000 take it for a ride for 15 minutes.
after that ajust the rpm to 1000 rpm. Forget about the values you see on the software. Just set it to the rpm the bike needs and be happy. if you use those book numbers some bikes are to high and others to low. I own one of each that do not like book values. Those values are only starting values and the fine print says adjust to match bike on service bulletin.
jazzn, what kind of mods are done to the bike? I have heard of instances where the cells in the fuel tables are off, and causing the problems you were talking about. If there aren't any mods, leave it alone, if there are you might want to talk to Xopti or theoctopus to get you going in the right direction. theoctopus runs the tuniversity, and you can get to it by clicking the link --->
I don't know how it is set up. I have to get the software and cables going. Have not had time.
Here's another thing. Ok so after running for a while the idle goes up from 1200 to over 2000. At that point I discovered if I hold the brake and slow the engine down by dragging the clutch a bit for a second, it goes back down to 1200 and will idle at 1200 till I move off again.
THESE IDLES ARE TOO DAMN HIGH!
