Thread: interactive muffler, why?

  1. #1
I decided to run without the dummy tank cover to see how the AMC works, i was surprised that the AMC will be open maybe 4 times and for short periods in 30 minutes ride, so actually most of the time the AMC is closed.

Due to the above i tie warped the cable to open state and went for a ride, i expected all the prophecies of "you loss bottom end power and such" but nothing happened except cool HD kind of sound which i like so my AMC stays open!

now the question is why really it is there?
it is for sure not working in the same way as on the Suzuki's there it will open right after you pass a certain RPM and stays open until the RPM comes down

Think it has something to do with emissions. I could be wrong.

following suit with all other manufacturers who have featured a "power valve" or "inter-active exhaust valve" thru the years it is designed to increase torque, help pass DOT fly-by noise regulations, and decrease decel popping.

I reprogrammed the ECM on my '07 uly. The valve is programmed to be closed 0-700rpm (for easy starting), open 700rpm - 3500rpm (sounds good), closed 3500-?rpm (for quiet cruising), then open to redline. I can't remember what rpm it opens at the upper range, you don't have to monkey with that.

It's kind of cool, you can hear the bike quiet down when the valve closes at 3500rpm. I don't really notice any loss of torque.

Anyway I copied someone else's suggestion on a post a long time ago. Don't ask me the specifics on how I did it. I don't remember, I just followed the post's directions, and used ECMspy.

    decrease decel popping
That is my favorite part about not having a stock exhaust anymore, and a bike that needs to be tuned.

When it pops on decel I get a chub and a huge grin on my face.
