Thread: Stator, Rotor issue

  1. #1
Add me to the LONG list of stator/rotor issues. Unfortunately for me, mine took a crap while I was going on a 400 mile road trip for work. My check engine light and battery light started turning on and off about the last 60 miles of the trip. It happened right when I came out of the mountains and it the outside temp went from the 80's to 103, the bike temp jumped to 205. I started to monitor my battery voltage it was jumping from the low 11's to the low 13's. One of the guys behind me said he could smell something burning. If anyone on here knows of a way to check to make certain that it is actually the stator that took a dump I would appreciate any advice on how to check, what to check, and what is going to be the cheapest route. I have read on the different forums that an 08 stator will fix it. or a rewind and EBR's new rotor. I called the harley dealer in reno they said the stator would be $732 and they would have to order it. EBR has the rotor for 425. Is there anyway I can just make a temp fix to make it home? Thanks

I don't believe EBR carries the rotor any longer. Not positive though. A large car battery strapped/rigged to your passenger seat will get you further down the road.

I really, really hope your wrong. I was one of the Jerks that bought the bike just prior to harley dropping the knife on Buell, so I paid full price. This latest issue I am having should be the last of the issues that the bike is known for. I have already fixed the clutch weep.

EBR got a new stock of the rotor, I just bought one couple weeks ago. http://www.erikbuellracing.com/store...ification.html

Keep in mind they will credit you $250 once you send your rotor.

08 Stator is smaller & less voltage output, no biggie but may be hard finding and likely a lot more expensive than rewind. I've gone the rewind direction and waiting to get back from Rick's

    Good luck!

Who did the rewind? How much did it cost? If I can get this fix cheaper than $1200 bucks, I would jump on it right now, that is just too much money. I am also wondering What wires you would read out, how would you read them out? I know how to operate a multimeter and I could follow the wires, I just don't know which one is hot and which one would be ground. like I said I am pretty far from home and I my resources are limited. ANY help would be awesome. By the way I am on the Naval base in Fallon, NV. Thanks ya all.

I don't know this guy at all, but I have his site bookmarked and enjoy reading his material. With that being said, rewind it yourself?

Or this guy does the rewind.
