Mine does that all the time on first cold start up of the day, I thought it was normal.
I've got a 2010 XB12Ss with 16,000 kms.
08 xb12 run switch, wait for fuel pump to shut the hell up, then hold start its makes a starting sound hesitates then fires up. Starter? Low battery? Spark plugs? Possibly just a tune up needed I'm @ almost 10k an I bought it 50miles ago. HD is 96$ to even look at it. You geniuses are free, with minimal description.thx

Same behavior here. Bought a new Scorpion AGM battery and get the same results, so now I have a spare. My ground and + cable are good.
Assuming your battery and cables have a good connection, on this forum I have read that an improperly adjusted clutch could worsen the situation (ie, lightly dragging clutch). I also read a suggestion that switching to Iridium plugs would make it better.
I would just like to find a good AGM battery with higher CCA. That should take care of it.
Mine has always had a slight pause before starting. I've had the bike since 2007. I have now 37,000 miles on it.
Start it up and ride.
My 08 XB12R does the same thing and always has. I have 7,600 mile on it..
In my case, it was start it up and have the alarm go off in 10 seconds because it saw a voltage removal event (~50% occurrence). The alarm defaults to "enabled" when voltage is applied.
FYI I did briefly remove the alarm to rule out overnight voltage drops as the cause of my initial hesitant start.
So maybe the plugs an a high crankin batt will do. Thx payday in t-minus 20hrs an counting
That is normal...
It's due to the cylinder being in compression cycle.
