On my left fork it has some kind of paint or something on it, I am an automotive painter so i figured this would be no problem; I've used everything that I could think of and it hasn't came off, it's very tough, what my question is, could I lift the bike, loosen the triples and turn that painted part of the fork tube to the inside? The bike is a 2005 XB9SX with clear anodizing BTW. Thanks

You got a pic of this paint? Maybe it's a stain of some sorts

No I don't, but it's definately some kind of single stage paint, it's kind of a gun metal color and its on the cover that the ignition and fly screen mount to also, but I used 000 steel wool and aircraft remover and industrial grade lacquer thinner and none of that touched it

I'd find whatever the paint is, and just paint the rest of it that color if you can't get it off....

Ok let me reword the question, would it hurt anything if I were to rotate the fork tube in the triple clamp? Like I said I really don't know anything about the preload adjustment on top of the forks and I was just wanting. To make sure it wouldn't have them turned the wrong way or something

Yes you can turn them. I had to do this with my freshly powder coated fork tubes that effing Harley put a small blemish in while reassembling them. I spun the tube to hide the blemish, but I would recommend resetting your suspension to factory settings, then to your specs.

Not exactly sure if this is neccessary, but it gave me piece of mind anyway! Plus if its been awhile since you adjusted them, may not be a bad idea to just double check them and balance them back out. Simple process for peace of mind.
