If this has been covered i apologize. I emailed D&D today to settle a bet and this was the response I got ......

This was to settle my own curiosity because there have been several topics about piper and this was the only one that no one had a awnswer for.

Everyone says they are something special..... This proves them to be nothing more than over glorified glass packs.

Steel wool wrapped around the louvered cores. Probably just like this.

They use 3" shells, I assume it's 2" internal louvered cores. 10% gain in the midrange over a 2500 rpm spread.
I use 3.5" shells and the same internal core to test with, but the split is obviously a wee bit different than theirs.

They are overly loud and built of mid grade materials

same quality and performance as every other pipe for buell.depending on the dyno and tune low to mid 80s or low to mid 90s.as far as build quality its excellent.19,743 miles on my d&d still sounds great and has never needed to be repacked not to many can say that.
