What are some symptoms that the bike might show of they need replacing?
great write-up...great pics.
leaking intake gaskets? trust me......you'll know it if and when it happens to your buell. performance is terrible and idle speed all over the map.
You can test with small squirts of WD-40 with a straw near the intake flanges while the bike is running,,, if you get a spike of RPMs, then thats a very good sign you have a intake leak. Very easy to hole a piston or burn your valves if you have a leak, the bad thing is,,,,,,,,these bikes with the ECM and FI compensate to some degree for the problem masking it,,, well worth a periodic check for leaks.
there was some European guys with a shop advertising a posting on here with improved seals and flanges,, seemed like a good product.
Odd however that carb mounted Sportsters dont seem to have these same intake issues.

Pretty sure imma be grabbing a can of WD40 today when I get home and checking for this ... (also equally as sure that it's gonna spell me having to do this to my xb....grrreeeaaat.... sadface.jpeg).....
Bright side is, from the excellent write up above, it doesn't look too difficult!Pretty sure imma be grabbing a can of WD40 today when I get home and checking for this ... (also equally as sure that it's gonna spell me having to do this to my xb....grrreeeaaat.... sadface.jpeg).....
Thanks for the great tutorial btw. Just a few question when you put the manifold back together do you use a gasket sealer? How tight should i make the bolts that go into the cylinder?
Thanks again first time doing this and im kind of nervous dont want to mess this up.
True dat !! ... Definitely worth the Rep point ...
