very nice. mine is on its way. one question... how did you mount the gauge in to the black panel? hot glue?

That is great, I just ordered one. I already have the LED volt meter from badweb in there but I like knowing what it is instead of just a range.

It fits snug in the hole I cut out of the black plastic piece. I'm thinking an epoxy in a syringe would be the way to go, but for now it hasn't budged at all.

I'd recommend either epoxy or crazy glue. Hot glue doesn't have to get too warm before it melts. After a few hours in the sun, I'd bet that the inside of that black gauge cluster would be pretty hot.

it was a though. thinking epoxy or gorilla glue. depending on the super glue, it eat the plactic.

As an experiment I put my spare gauge directly to the battery, it read 12.3 volts while the gauge in the cluster showed 12.2 volts, so there is a variance but it is small and from what I know of electricity, is to be expected.
Im guessing this was when the bike was off? Youll still read the 12 when the bike it on but the battery will be fluctuating with the stator charging while moving. The gauge will supply a constant voltage to the gauge components while the battery voltage varies with charging.

This is a very nice mod but with the way it is hooked up it is not going to be very reliable. I would start probing the wires coming into the cluster for a hot line, then test that line with the bike running, then solder to that pin. That would give some more accuracy without running the wires out of the cluster.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. When my gauge arrives I plan to play around a bit with some different wiring options, but certainly standard proceedure for reading alternator out put is to take the measurement at the battery posts.

With the bike running it was showing between 13.9 and 14.3 depending on rpm.

I'll take some new pics when I get home with it running.
