This is a stupid question but i have doubts so I askit anyhow does having a drilled pipe in the exhaust improve any performance or is it just to get it to be louder?

Yeah I know loud exhausts save lives ;) but I'm a low profile guy and I have a reverso from APH I love the looks and performance but its a bit loud for me so I'm in a quest to quiet it down the drilled tubing I'm referring is this inside the muffler

I thought the pipe had a bad packing problem so I bought a high quality packing fiber and instal it but when I open it the packing was the same as the one I have bought and the result is of course the same.. So my next move would be to substitute the drill pipe for one with no holes I just want to check if the performance would be the same or will I lose some power like if I would use direct pipes

    Hope I made myself clear

I believe a solid(non-perforated) pipe would make it louder.

Solid pipe will make it louder . The holes in the pipe with packing bring the noise down alittle, packing acts as a dampener.

You would have to add baffles somehow, but I'll leave that up to the exhaust gurus on the site!

If it hasn't already been said, loud pipes save lives. ;)
Having said that, from your description and pics, it looks like you're running an absorption type muffler in which case I'd think replacing the perforated tube with a solid one would actually *increase* volume.

I mite be wrong but don't baffles help with back pressure?

perforated pipes will muffle the volume some. These are the best performing mufflers out there. They are straight through and do not affect performance. You can have no packing(usually this is used in resonators) and it will muffle the sound, but adding packing absorbs more of the sound. These mufflers are usually fairly quiet at idle/cruising rpms but loud with a lot of throttle.

Chambered mufflers are the quietest, but worst performing.

    More volume(space) = less volume(noise)

I've done some research and came up with this http://www.1130cc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47662 maybe a solution.. the picture I have post it's not my exhaust its just to show what I ment - thanks on the replys saying it would be louder that would be my next option so now my next move would be this cones I just need to find a way to get this vortex cones across the pound - if any one have experience with this or other way to quite a loud exhaust I appreciate the input
