It does sputter a bit. Misfires below 3000 and at an idle a bit.

How much fuel could possibly leak when its not running, with no pressure and only an ounce or too in the highet part of the injectors. This would take dozens of on and off cycles to accumulate enough volume to fill the oil reservoir to the point of spilling out..... Anybody think the injectors might be leaking when it's off?....
more than likely its leaking when its running and off.if the temps are high and the vent is restricted the tank can build pressure and leak through the injectors.Anybody think the injectors might be leaking when it's off?....
Is it recommended to let it idle a little before shutting down? Like a turbo diesel? I know it's air cooled and all. I'm in Oregon. Not like its scorching up here.
Even for a little while after you run and shut down a fuel injected motor there's pressure in the lines ... the regulator keeps the pressure up to about 40 psi when it's running, so I imagine it would keep it there for some time (Let's not get carried away if it's actually like 35 or 45 ... that's just a guess ... my Jeep was 50 psi at the rails) .... and this is just a barely educated guess as this is a very odd problem ... fuel and oil come nowhere close to each other on this bike except for the combustion chambers ... So ..... it's got to be somewhere around this area ..... I can't imagine anywhere else fuel would make it into the motor except for a sticky or leaky injector ... There's just nowhere else for it to come from ....
I don't think he's still on here from 8 years ago. But good to check all the same things already stated in this thread. Theres no reason his solution would be the same as yours.
FYI, leaky injectors can make the oil smell like fuel, but not overflow it. IMO, he had a problem with the oil check valve and it was improperly filled by the PO. The checking/ filling procedure should be followed closely.

That can happen to a 1986 Ninja 1000 as well
