Hey everyone, this is my first post here but I'm a long time reader. Great forum and tons of awesome info.
Few months ago I got myself a 2007 XB12Scg with 2800miles and no mods. I had some small CC bikes and tons of scooters of all sizes but this is my first real deal. Absolutely love it!
Bike has been sitting a lot before I got it so I took it apart, replaced all the fluids and cleaned and adjusted everything possible (read the manual up and down few times). So far only mods are all LED turn signals, chopped tail with LED brake light, and K&N air filter. Also got a ECMspy cable and software. When I put everything together I did TPS reset and performed diagnostics (no error codes), corrected static timing and set the AFV to 100% (was at 114%). Bike was starting and idling ok but was dying in a minute or so. So I've set the AFV back to 114% and performed another TPS reset. That seemed to solve the dying issue but now when I ride it little harder and warm the bike a lot, come to a stop and idle is at 2000. Will not go down till it cools down a little in the city traffic. Bike also hesitates at low RPMs like 2000 (but that might be different issue as I've read in other posts)
How can I fix this? Perhaps I reset the TPS wrong? In the part after reset, when you suppose to warm the bike up and set the RPM to 1050-1150 I just let it idle for like 5 minutes and then set it. Perhaps bike was not warm enough? Or could it be K&N filter? I didn't remap nor I did any other adjustments.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

nice bike! mine does that occasionally too...... I think it is the k&n because it just recently started and I did just put 8k miles on the k&n alone this year without cleaning it. so thats what I will be doing this weekend.
Thanks QTP! My K&N is pristine as I just checked. I've only put on about 160 miles:). I think it would take me at least 5 years to put on 8000. I mostly ride in the city down here in New Orleans. I just did a 3rd TPS reset and it seems to be little better. Although it was strange that after I set it and warm it up, I didn't have to adjust it since it was still idling between 1050-1150. Strange? At least now I don't get the 2000+ idle even when hot. But my fan kicks in a lot and cruising at around 2000 rpm is still little jerky sometimes. Starts fine but after about 30 secs of idling rpms go down and sometimes stall. Also have a code 21 now (active muffler control). I checked it and it works, but seems little sluggish. Perhaps stripped gear.
Anyway, I'm going to get rid of it since I want to install factory race pipe that I've recently acquired. Just not 100% sure what else I'll need before I put it on. I guess flashing a race map would be good start. Don't know where to get one. Also is the breather reroute necessity ?
Went to local V-twin specialist but he wouldn't help and sent me to HD stealership where they told me they don't do Buells :o . I'll do more research on this forum as it's my best bet. So much info here. Just love it.
Here's few pics I took off ECMspy
Before last TPS reset
After last TPS reset
Bye you can take a screen **** or use the snippet app on windows 7 so you don't have to take pictures of the screen.
No need to use foul language, lol. But thanks for the tip. I'll try that next time.
Had the same issues with mine. Cept the AFV was in the reverse due to living at almost 5000'MSL. Never had a Fault lite nor any history of Fault Codes via ECMSPY MONO 2.
Called AL at American Sportbike. Discussed my issues. He immediately recommend I R&R the ETS (Engine Temp Sensor).
So I did that last week. Giant PITA but it got done and did some rewiring mods to boot. Found that the wire from the sensor to the D-Fitting had a couple of frays and a tiny cut/opening. Appears that's all it took to ground out on occasion and cause the issues I was having.
Since changing out the ETS, she runs like a brand new rig. My AFV has been steady and relearns quickly to compensate for the altitude adjustments I ride. 5K to 10K then back down to 5K in less than an hours time frame. I have had no issues since the replacement. AL Nailed it.
You can order one and the req'd socket from him here:

I got ten bucks says it fixes your issues.
Here's my 08 XB12SCGR with 23K on it btw.
Thanks for the info RPBUELL and beautiful bike by the way. So you're saying that your bike was hesitating in around 2000RPM or all over? I'll definitely poke around with my multimeter and check the wiring first before I fork out $100 for the ETS. But would be awesome if that would fix it. It's really not super bad but it can get little scary in the corners.
I forgot to mention that I had a history of code 15 (IAT sensor). Too bad it doesn't show the date. But I've measured the resistance at the gray plug at ECM and it is very close to specs from manual. Actually did it twice with 2 different sensors. Also don't have any recent code 15 anyway so I don't think that is the problem.
I would still really appreciate if someone would point me to fuel map for K&N and factory race pipe.
Considering the context of his post, I think he meant to say "screen shot".No need to use foul language, lol. But thanks for the tip. I'll try that next time.
Unless you catch it at the right second when it is grounding, I do not think you will be able to measure it with a meter. I actually tried it at the D-Fitting and it registered normal. Al shared with me that is a common troubleshooting step that can be masked if the wire is not open and touching.
Yeah, she is a very special ride. Thanks.
