My guess would be because the slot that the shield retracts into, prevents the interior styrofoam liner from bonding to the exterior shell for much of the top/frontal area of the helmet, thereby making it a weaker design(?).I really like the idea of the internal drop down tinted shield, but why aren't any of them DOT approved?
