Just wanted to start a thread, what is your favorite piece of gear and why? Be as descriptive as you like. pros con's, you can even tell us the gear you don't like so that we don't make a similar mistake.

Will hell I'll start. I love my speed and strength jacket. It has plenty of will placed vents for the summer, and no wind finds its way through in the winter! It feels really high quality and there feels to be enough armor but it doesn't get in your way or make you uncomfortable. I've had it for a couple years. My wife got off motorcyclesuperstore.com for me as a Christmas gift.

Anything with a CE spine protector!

Road-rash, bruises & broken bones eventually heal, but a broken back lasts a lifetime!

A full-face helmet just goes without saying.

Boots. Good gloves with abrasion pads on the palms. Leather jacket with pads and built in back protector. Helmet that is snell and dot approved, lol. I bought some new gear, a helmet and jacket. Getting gloves when I get home next month.

    Boots. Good gloves
    Yup & Yup!

Boots & gloves are so fundamental to safety & performance that it's doubtful you'll be able to live with just one pair of each. I have many pairs to select from depending on if I am riding:
    - around town
    - touring
    - off road
    - cold/wet weather
    - track

My last pair of gloves lasted me about 9-years till they finally wore out. I'm in the market for a new pair when I return home from deployment. I'm going up to Motorcycle Closeouts when I go to visit family in Kansas City. They have a very large selection of gloves to choose from and I got to try them all on, lol.

gloves with abrasion pads on the palms
This is a good point. Many of us get seduced by those sexy-looking carbon-fiber or titanium knuckles when in fact, it's the palms that abrade just about every time.

I still look for old-school rivets on the palms. In fact, here's a pair I made myself years ago out of deer-skin roper-gloves for hard-packed off-slab use. They breathe, & provide excellent feel, grip & comfort:

If available for your helmet- a transition shield. Great for blocking the sun in the day, and clear at night.
