Thread: Broken horn mounting strap

  1. #1
09XT Broken horn mounting strap, has anyone else had this happen? A month and a half ago I noticed the horn was slapping into the fly screen during a ride with friends, went home, took off the fly screen and bent the strap back for more clearance. Did OK for a while then it broke. Thought about fabricating a new one but had a Tool Maker at work weld it back together instead :D. Reassembled it and ran the bike without the fly screen, boy does the horn flap around during idle. If this has happened to you were there any mods done to stiffen up the strap so the horn unit didn't vibrate so much?

Ditch the strap and mount it directly to the support brace under the fly screen (there should be a hole already).

    No more breaking brackets! :)

Oh, and I added some self adhesive foam rubber strips to the face of the horn to prevent it from rubbing against fly screen - just as a precaution.

I have an 08XT, same thing happened, bolted it directly to the bracket, just had to tweak the bracket slightly to make room.
