If hole are not perfect across from each other, then they'll bind up simulating a cross thread.

If threads in the fork leg or the axle bolt look damaged, re-tap. If not then don't remove anymore material than necessary. Fork should be good. :D

You could just buy a right lower leg, probably only $100 or so from surdyke.
Surprised thstermetc or oh9 haven't posted part numbers yet.

It's pretty tough to cross thread either XB axle. Have your forks been off individually before? If they aren't exactly across from each other it will bind also

New forks seems like a waste when you don't need new forks.
I saw your post on FB as well.

Can you buy just the lowers? I looked in the service manual-looked to be one piece. Any help appreciated.

To my knowledge, forks were never off.

My 08 XB12R parts catalog doesn't show lowers either. It doesn't mean they don't sell them. Call a dealership and find out.

They do and I dont have the part number, I did but now cant find it. I want to see pics of the threads and if the forks are aligned height wise

I would also get the wheel out of the way twist the right lower and see if you can thread the axle in the right fork by itself.

I did that---it's as hard to thread as when the wheel; is there. I found this (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/249047.html) which shows a lower. might be able to get away with that and a fork rebuild.

I'd be terrified to re-tap the front fork/axle seat. It would be in the back of my mind the entire time I ride.

It's January, I'll see if they sell the lowers only and go that route if they do. What a PITA....believe it or not, I'm not even pissed off...this is pretty par for the course for anything I ever try.

Hope you find a new lower. I would try to tap it and not worry about it. Remember, the axle threads left-handed so it highly unlikely to move when installed, and more importantly, there are 4 pinch bolts holding in place. Good luck my brother.
