If you can change your car oil, an alternator, or water pump then you should be mechanically inclined enough to do the job, there is a thread on this forum that outlines everything and even has pictures!:p
Hey Folks,
I know that you have to drop the engine to replace the rocker gaskets. The process of dropping the engine scares me a bit so I was wondering if anyone ever took their bike to a dealership(harley) and got a quote for this. I assume the price is stupid high.

Thats the same write up I used. Really easy once you do it. You will be good.
Don't be afraid of it. It's a piece of cake. Use the write up, take your time, get a nice torque wrench.
Can I use a car jack to support the engine as I drop it? I have a 2 ton floor jack. Its all I have on hand.
That's what I used. It rotates and rests on the front tire.
what also helps and makes the job a hell of alot easier is go to hardware store and buy a pair of J hooks. $1 each. thread them into a rafter or ceiling directly above the handlebars. if the bars measure 30 inches tip to tip put the J hooks 40 inches apart. now put a wrap or tie around each handlebar end/grip and run a cycle tie-down from each wrap or tie to the OPPOSITE J hook. cinch them evenly until the bike is standing straight up. make sure they are tight and in X pattern. now put small block in front of front wheel and rear or rear wheel. bike will free stand in that position and makes the job quite easy
