Thread: Shifter / Primary Stripped Thread

  1. #1
    Hey guys,

Before true winter hit, I hit some ice and slid out. I was going really slow so damage was minimal to the bike and I was totally fine. But there is one lingering issue.

The thread for the bolt that holds the shifter in place are stripped. I believe that this is from the shifter being bent and thus torquing on thread / bolt and slowly stripping it out. The bolt sits in still, but when I shift it slowly works its way out. Have any of you ever dealt with this? If so, have you been able to re-tap the thread or is it necessary to replace the primary cover?

Any info / recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Loc-tite to keep it from backing out, or time-sert (type of heli-coil) to fix.

    Time-cert.

Before you're all done, make sure the boss (machined surface) is square or the shifter bolt sleeve will be cocked and the shifter will bind
