Thread: got my xb9s, having electrical issues

  1. #1
Well here's what it looked like when I bought it

Here's what it looked after I got it home

It was running fine, then I shut it off and when I went to restart, I turned the key, the dash lights went dim and the key switch relay started buzzing. So I pulled the negative battery lead and started looking for a short somwhere. Is there a common wear area for these bikes? I checked my grounds, and I'm going to take the battery in for a load test this afternoon. I also pulled the relay and switched it with another and the buzzing stayed. Is there anything else that I should be checking?

So you did check the braided ground strap, has to be pretty tight!

When I rotated my engine out to do my rocker box gaskets I put everything back together rode it home, and the next morning lights dim, click click click, and wouldn't start!

Thanks, djs. I didn't know there was a ground there. I'll check that one.

Yeah it's under the seat on my xb.

Nope. Still tight, symptoms remain. If I can't fix it I may just have to take it to the dealer. Though most dealers don't like dealing with buell, do they?

It's touch and go! Macon Harley in Georgia is very Buell friendly. New river Harley in Jacksonville NC is also Buell friendly!

Just called my local dealer, and they said they don't work on them.

hook up ecmspy or jumper pins one and two of the connector (gray) to the right of the ecm in order to read if there are any codes. start there first and let us know what you find.

I'm thinking you might have a bad battery. How old is the battery? Let us know how the load test goes? And also follow the above advice.
Has to be something simple if you rode it home with no issues
