You can get HD Top End gasket kit at any HD in your area, or I am sure our Lunaticfringe has them in stock and can answer any and all your questions about any Buell better than any HD dealership .

Thanks for the leads! I'll contact your recommendation. The Amazon linked to an 04-06 XL... Does that sound right?
Part number 17049-04. Super affordable. The valve cover gaskets didn't look right but it's likely a stock photo.
Lunatic is probably your best bet. James, Cometic, both are great companies with better reputations than HD. Cometic has a great customer service department that will take care of you if you go that route. They will even put together a special kit of gaskets of your preferred thickness if your application requires.
I would start with Lunatic if it were me. He knows what works in these bikes better than any...
very kind words on your part and much appreciated. in all honesty when i find something that is top quality, consistent, and works wonderfully i stick with it. i know cometic and athena make both "top-end" and full gasket sets for sportster/buell applications but have only ever used james. i will occasionally cherry pick a few assorted gaskets from H-D but have always used james. cole (azmidget91) also frequently rips and tears on these motors so curious what his preference is. the JAMES numbers are:
JGI-17049-04-X complete gasket set.....fits all XB 2003-2006 inclusive
JGI-17049-07-X """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" 2007-2010 inclusive
PM'ed you Lunatic. I like to keep my $ within the family.
My Local HD dealers aren't bad, but parts guys have a bad attitude about Buells. And Ebay and Amazon don't need my $.
I was digging James gaskets, based on principal, so that's the route I will take!
Now to find a clutch basket bearing... yikes
