I should have just spent on all the money on a really nice one, but I have a small collection now worth about 7000$ maybe a tad more.

I have spent as much as $8000 on a Rolex Date-Just, as little as $250 on a Seiko Recraft. My only criteria is that a watch must have an automatic mechanical movement; no quartz!

There's lots of great Swiss automatics using the ETA 2824 movement. Tissot, Hamilton, Rado, Longines, & Omega (all Swatch Group brands) offer some great choices in the $1000 - $3000 range.

Nah! Just like motorcycles, it's nice to have a variety. I'd rather have a $10,000 sportbike, a $5000 dualsport, & a $5000 standard out in the garage than just one $20,000 Harley...

I'm obviously in a different tax bracket.
Last time I bought a watch I spent 50 bucks on a fossil.
I could never justify spending some of the dough you guys are talking about on a watch.
    We all have our "things".
I'm not trying to knock anyone. Please don't take this that way.
Good for you, if you can afford such pleasures.
I guess I'm a much simpler person than I thought.
How about some pics of these fancy watches.
    You guys have me curious

You’re right, it’s silly. I’m not rich, I just have a weakness for watches, but occasionally my conscience gets the better of me. On Dec 24, 2004, Christmas Eve, I had decided that I would buy myself a Rolex Air-King for Christmas. I picked one out & had the shop size the bracelet so I could pick it up on Boxing Day. You may recall that on that day a Tsunami hit Indonesia. All of a sudden, buying a $5000 watch just didn’t feel right so I bought this $500 PR50 instead & donated $4,500 to The Salvation Army.

Here it is, coincidentally on my wrist today, with a G10 strap replacing the original stainless steel bracelet:

I know it's not as fancy as some but it is the nicest gift I have ever received and I am incredibly thankful for such a great ol lady.
