I used Cometic base gaskets. The HD ones were a huge PITA to get off, they were some sort of cardboard material that got baked onto the jugs. The Cometic are also available in different thicknesses so you can change squish, as Chickenstripn said.

this...if you're wanting a bit more out the bike, look into a race ecm and exhaust, also a K&N filter. this set up was on my '03 and was hanging in with the 12's somewhat, still a step above the stock set up. just my two cents...
