Chunks on the primary drain plug

I found chunks of metal on my primary drain plug recently. The pieces were slightly curved and I searched all over for any posts of anyone else who had these symptoms. Finding none, I removed my primary and got to work. I decided to post my findings so that anyone else who finds similar symptoms can get a leg up on getting it fixed.

After opening up the primary, this is what my chain looked like:

My primary chain adjuster shoe was also torn up...

After checking both sprockets and seeing absolutely no damage, the only thing I can think of is possibly the adjuster shoe broke and a jagged edge caught the chain roller and broke some. The resulting debris then caused additional damage? Another possibility is that my primary chain was adjusted too tight...

The parts I replaced for this issue are the following:

    1. Primary chain (same as 2004-2011 xl1200 sportster)
    2. Primary chain adjuster (same as 2004-2011 xl1200 sportster)

    Hope this helps!

Thanks OC. It's best to adjust that chain with the running method and loose is better than even a tiny bit too tight.
