    Complete oil change?

Im a newbie here so I can't seem to figure out the search on this forum very well yet. So sorry for asking a question that has probably been answered a million times. But when you do an oil change is just draining the swing arm all you need to do? Or is dropping that bolt under the crank necessary? And if that is necessary how much more oil should I add in?

You have to drain the swingarm, replace the oil filter and add 2.5 qt fresh oil and check oil level when it is hot. Oil under crank needs to be replaced each 10000 miles, if it is 5000 miles oil change it is not necessary. User manual which should be sourced with the motorcycle has the process description.

How come? Is it all the same oil or does the oil in the crank not mix with the oil in the swing arm? Because if it is all the same wouldn't you want to change it completely?

They are separated cavities. By the way the most important thing in oil change do not strip the oil plug threads. Tighten the plug with bare hand, do not use torque wrench.

Ok. When you put the plugs back in should you use thread sealer? Knowing how these bike vibrate I feel like you would need too. And thank you I had no idea they where separated areas!

Yes, use Loctite 565 thread sealant. I also drilled holes in my plugs and secured them with safe wire. Also secure the oil filter with wire, it can unscrew due to vibrations.

    crank drain plug
oil in crank mixing with swingarm
    draining the crank
    safety wired drain plugs
    safety wired oil filters
    thread sealant on drain plugs
NO mention of factory drain plug O-rings.

THIS THREAD IS SO WRONG on so many fronts it's actually quite humorous
