MY 2010 upgrade: oil cooled water pump seal

I recently picked up an '09 1125CR. Water pump cover is leaking oil near the front and it's quite the task to replace the gasket. With a bit of internet research I discovered that there's a 2010 spec water pump cover that oil cools the water pump seal - apparently improving durability. Unfortunately, it does require a host of additional components that match the new water pump cover (or clutch cover assembly, as Buell parts catalog calls it out). In case anyone is considering this update themselves, here's a list of the part numbers needed, available through a couple of US HD dealerships, like Newcastle HD.

    1. 2010 spec clutch/water pump cover assembly (R0022A.3AM) - $219.49
    2. 2010 spec waterpump shaft assembly (Q0428.3AM) - $157.36
    3. 2010 spec clutch diaphragm thrust washer (CB0028.1AM) - $2.73
    4. 2010 spec waterpump oil seal (Q0430.3AM) - $8.08
    5. 2010 spec waterpump rotary seal (Q0431.3AM) - $26.41
    6. 2008-2010 spec clutch/water pump cover gasket (R0001.1AM) - $17.28
    7. 2008-2010 water pump gasket (Q0426.1AM) - $4.06
    8. Sealing ring (CJ0001.1AM) - $1.25

Thanks for the info! Never had an 1125CR...but if I find myself owning one someday, this might come in handy.

    UPDATE
I managed to at least temporarily stop my leaking cover by:
    1. cleaning it very thoroughly with Brakleen
    2. Retorquing all fasteners using a calibrated torque wrench that I borrowed from a friend who is a mechanic.
    3. Allowing it to cool enough to apply some Permatex Right Stuff gasket maker on the seam between the engine case and the cover where it appears to be leaking from.
    4. Allowing the gasket maker to set for about 12 hours.

Not leaking anymore after several heat cycles. I suspect this will only buy me some time before I have to do the motor teardown, but additional time on the bike is good times!

IMO, I don't think the cost and trouble of the 2010 cover 'upgrade' is necessary. It isn't a very common problem and once fixed, it should be good for the life of the bike.

Plan a weekend in the garage and have fun fixing it (with beers of course) when it's convenient for you. Otherwise, you'll forget about it and it will start leaking again at a very inconvenient time Because Murphy.
