If you are going to drain the oil use inspection endoscope camera to find where exactly that piece is.

This one has hooks and picks attachments and rigid formable wire so you can just find your piece and grab it looking on the screen.

    To answer the OP's question:
There is nothing moving in the swingarm. You want to remove the rubber thing because it could sit over the oil line and possibly restrict flow to the oil pump.

Yes, drain your oil into a very clean container so you can re-use it. It will make using a flashlight and dental mirror easy to see the rubber thing, and retrieve it with a long pick, hook tool like these:

You don't need to be a mechanic to do that, but you should be a mechanic to unnecessarily replace the whole swingarm.

So far I have the oil out, and ive looked inside but I cant seem to see it. Unfortunately the size of my head doesnt allow for directly looking in the hole. I will pursue the dental mirror idea and if that doesnt work ill get the endoscope.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

If you can't wait, stick your phone camera lens in the hole with a flashlight and take a bunch of pics.

Ive definately tried the cellphone camera already. the problem is the threaded section of the hole is around 1 inch deep. Makes looking inside pretty limited.

Well, looks to be only two choices left.

    1. Hang the bike upside down and shake vigorously or
    2. get out the shop vac, rig up a flexible end and grope around in the swing arm until it "sucks' it

    What a drama!

    Best Luck,

    Opto
