Wondering if the tensioner will take up the slack if I use a 26t pulley

Considering the tensioner doesn't move... I doubt it.

You 'could' slot one of the holes to make the tensioner adjustable, but IME you also need to thread it for a set screw (against the mounting stud) to hold adjustment.

2-2003 and earlier XL's had an available 27T front pulley. won't fit buell XB's.
3-all front pulleys regardless of application have the tooth count STAMPED onto either the front or back of the pulley.
Thanks for the info lunaticfringe! Saved me $, frustration and time. All those imposters are now purged from my watch list.

you're quite welcome dan. supposedly the earlier pre-rubber-mounted XL 27T front pulley will fit the XB's but i haven't personally tried it so can't confirm it. correct part # for that pulley in 27T count is ..... Oem part number 40285-91B and 40288-95

That is an aftermarket "Free Spirits" tensioner. I have no idea if it will have the correct tension with a different belt pulley, but I highly doubt it.

If you want to play with final drive ratios I would suggest a chain conversion (cheap and easy) or if your bike is a 12, you can change to primary gears from a 9 for a shorter ratio.

    IMO

Awesome 34:19! I didn't know he made those, thanks for the heads up

IME, All Of PurPonys stuff is legit and made well.

Other than the good looks, whats the point of lightening it? In theory of better shifting? Faster acceleration? (haha)
