03 XB9s Lightning Bogging down low RPM

Just bought a 03 XB9s Lightning and after a few miles of riding it starts to bog at low RPM and steadily get worse. Got home and it was idling fine. Took it back out and it fell flat on its face in first and cleared up. It's getting worse and manly low rpm through all the gears. At first thought bad gas but now its got to be something else. I've delt with this before on cars but can't remember what it was and have never delt with it on bikes. Has anyone gone through this that can help pin point whats going on?

if your CEL(check engine light) isn't fully illuminated or intermittently illuminated it's a failing fuel pump.

    PS-happy easter!

Do you have any tools to diagnose the bike? You should be getting a constant, steady, 50psi of fuel pressure at idle and when revving the bike. I'd check it before replacing an expensive part.

If you do have a check engine (yellow "V") light, you can check the code to see what circuit it may be.
The procedure and codes are in the manual you can get for free at Buellmods.com or Buelltooth.com

The free program ECMDroid is a really good tool to have to diagnose problems with the bike yourself, instead of taking it to your local V-twin shop.

What is a good site to find the parts like fuel pump and others?

The light is not coming on. I'll check these sites out. I can check the pressure but not codes.

Lunatic has a real good deal on a pump re-build kit, if thats the problem. You can PM him.

You will need to diagnose the bike to know what's wrong. Searching this forum for similar problems and solutions is a good start. Having diagnostic tools like ECMDroid to check codes and test systems is invaluable for that.

A fuel pressure test will either need an adaptor you can buy ( SPHDonline.com), or make (drill/tap to 1/8"MPT and add your own shrader valve in the system).

If this all feels over your head, having a relationship with your local V-twin shop is a good idea. Paying for an hour or two of professional diagnosis is cheaper than swapping in expensive parts you're guessing that you need.
