    Cooling fan won't come on

    Hi,

    I have a 2004 Buell xb12s.
Since I have this bike I've never heard the cooling fan.
Today it was very warm for this country (the Netherlands), +30 ℃ (= 86 ℉).
I've ridden the bike for half an hour and still didn't hear the fan blowing.
The bike was very hot. Even after half an hour of cooling down I still couldn't even touch the frame/ gas tank.
What is the first thing to check to fix this fan problem?

Fan fuse and relay, in the fuse box under the seat, if it's not the fuse switch one of the other relays in and see if that works, f it's not that it could be the temp sensor, also check your wiring and that the fuse is getting juice.

Check all of the above ^^^^ then run 12v to the fan to test if it works . Is the fan cover in oil ?

After doing the above, consider getting the Buelltooth diagnostic tool to plug into your ECM.

You can then check if the bike has the correct on/off temperature parameters for the fan, and also do test runs with it.

FYI on my '09 XB9 the fan usually doesn't come on while I'm riding, only after it's parked and turned off at the end of the ride. Then it runs for about 2-3 minutes.

^^^^This is how my XB behaves also.

You can do a self test of the fan using the Buelltooth dongle and ECMDroid. There is a fan test option that runs the fan for a few seconds.

When mine was behaving like this, it turned out to be the head temperature sensor.

Wow thank you all for the clear instructions. I will check it all.
(when the temperature in my garage drops, that is )

I've read some things about the diagnostic devices available and what would be a better choise, ecmspy with a cable to a computer or a bluetooth dongle with the app?

It depends on how smart you are with a computer. I'm not good with them so I have the Buelltooth which serves me well. I'm pretty sure you can do more tech stuff with the ecmspy.

IMO Buelltooth dongle with an app is much easier and user friendly, not that ecmspy isn’t

Ok I've ordered the Buelltooth dongle and it was delivered very fast. I'm surprised how much there is to tweak with this device!

Anyway, the fan tests shows that the fan works.
But now the question, are the temperatures correctly set?
