FYI - Alternative to XB shoulder bolts

Here is an alternative to the OEM shoulder bolts.
These bolts are used on the chin fairing, the airbox cover, and other locations

You can see the differences in the pics.
This alternative is also stainless steel like OEM.

The shoulder on the aftermarket is 3/32" longer
Both are T27 but the aftermarket is a security bit T27. The difference being that the security head has a pin in the center
You will need a T27 security bit for this bolt. The security bit has a hole to allow for the center pin. Here's a pic of the bit needed.

I also ordered a bag of black washers. These are larger than stock. They are 11/16" OD, 5/16" ID, and 3/32" thick.
These washers are thicker than the OEM washers. This makes up for the slightly longer shoulder of the bolt.

The bolts are $1.77 each at Zoro

    Here's a a link for the larger 11/16" washers - https://www.ebay.com/itm/5-16-Oil-Re...z4iKo6GYSa3xYQ

For those who don't like the larger size washer, here's a link for 9/16" washers. These washers are the same size as the head on the bolt. These are the same thickness as the larger washers, 3/32"

hey levan: i just know that took a ton of searching on your part and one hell of a job. i think your discovery is a first for this site. can't thank you enough. would you mind if i offered something up? i won't do it till you give the ok...but was thinking about calling them...asking for quantity discount on 100 pieces...getting free freight...then splitting the order up with anyone on here that wants some. just an idea. thank you.

Thanks for the kind words. I have a research quirk in my personality, lol. Go for it. I ordered a dozen from Zoro. I really tried to find the exact OEM bolt, but to no avail.

    thanks again levan!
i think i have the XB bolt count correct with the below.
SHAUGHN: is this bolt count sound about correct...and what is a security bit fastener? i doubt i have one.

bolt count would be as memory serves on all XB's:
    4 per airbox cover
    4 per airbox base plate
    4 per front fender
2 on stock cowling left side
3 on stock cowling right side
    does 17 sound about right????
SHAUGHN????? LEVAN???? please confirm before i get grumpy and melt down.
    PS-Aaron....shut up!
The security bit has a hole in the center. If you look at the pics of the head of the bolt you can see the OEM is a standard T27 and the aftermarket is T27 but you can see the pin in the middle.
As far as bolt count goes, I have not counted. I just ordered a dozen. Shipping on that dozen was $4.95. I put a washer under and on top of the airbox cover. Squeezes the cover between the rubber washers. It makes a nice snug fit.

17 sounds good to me, is the official name for the belt guards "cowling"? Lernt sumpin' today! The rear fender of my STT takes 5 of them suckas, IIRC the R and S takes 3 there? I'll count Bubbles bolts next time she's over on the Scg, and I think the left scoop takes another 3. Sometimes I find shouldered bolts in there sometimes not. I can't find a rhyme or reason to why?

Following 'Cruzas lead... I checked out Grainger. They have them for $1.91 each and no price break for even 200 of them

    And shut up Aaron!

    Fun fact:

The EBR takes the 1/4"-20 shouldered pan heads for most of it's bodywork, and even has pan head T27's that look exactly the same... but in metric

I drank a whole beer in the shop after finding that one
