Seems I’ve spent a lot of money to end up with 1050 kit hp. Well short of the 120 hp this build was supposed to make...

As soon as I got home from the dyno I pulled the plugs and did a compression check. 170 psi on both cylinders. Let that sink in for a minute. 170

After running some numbers I found out the 1170 has less than 10:1 compression. Less than stock compression! I was told this combination would make 10.5-10.8:1. On top of that the redshift cams I chose were a mistake. The cam timing is all wrong for the motor. With these two issues I could have run the 1170 motor on 87 octane! This has to be where the power is hiding. So I made 21hp over stock with the same or less compression. That’s kinda impressive lol.

I’ve been talking with Aaron Wilson of Hammer performance. He says he can help. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not happy with 102. That’s not what I paid for. So, Aaron is gonna make me a custom set of 30 degree reverse dome pistons at about 11.5:1 compression, doing a cam change but tweaking the cam timing, adding 1.725 roller rockers. I’m determined to find the rite combo to make this motor scream. I’ll update as I go. This is far from over

Just grind off some of the leading and trailing edges of the cam profile to reduce the overlap. Easy peasy. You do have a bench grinder, right?

I actually need More overlap. The redshift 585s only have 35 degrees of overlap. I need closer to 50 degrees. The cam timing on the intake valve closing is too late also. The redshifts close the intake valve at 59 degrees. I need closer to 53 degrees. So, I’m going back to the cat 3 cams. They have 50 degrees of overlap and 49 degrees for ivc. I’m gonna retard the cam 4 degrees to get the timing right. So in the end I should have 50 degrees of overlap, ivc at 53 degrees, and adding the 1.725 rockers will give me a lift of .583.
