    Highway speed cruise

    hi guys,

reading a lot of post many people say the natural habitat of the beloved Xb9/12 Buell are the hill, and avoid the highway.
I want to buy the Xb just for cruise but is really terrible a highway speed constantly 85/90 mph?
If the problem if the high rpm,i can just put a smaller transmission with less tooth. It is a good solution or the best way is leave at it is?

thanks for your feedback guys, speaking with some people about higway speed,I become paranoid.
I don' need a rocket bike, I sold the Ninjas last monts but i cant believe you can drive this bike,9 or 12, at "normal" speed !

New forum topics such as yours always amuse me. you're voicing concerns and worriment about something you haven't even "purchased" yet...and probably never will? laughable.

HERE IS CORRECT FORMULA-SPECIFICATIONS-CALCULATIONS TO DETERMINE PROBABLE XB INTERNAL ENGINE WEAR RATES
WEAR RATES BASED ON TIME-TESTED MEAN PISTON SPEED FEET PER MINUTE MATHEMATICAL FORMULA

    FORMULA: Piston Speed in feet-per-minute = stroke x rpm ÷ 6
BUELL XB9 STROKE IS 3.1 INCHES
BUELL XB12 STROKE IS 3.8 INCHES
BUELL XB9 RPM IN STOCK TOTALLY STOCK CONFIGURATION @ 95MPH IS 5000RPM
    """"""""XB12 """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" """"""""""""""""" 4450RPM

BUELL XB9 PISTON FPM IS 2584
BUELL XB12 PISTON FPM IS 2819

common sense correlation of these numbers reveals that the XB12 is flirting with unsustainable internal component integrity if asked to sustatin these speeds for hours on end. how many "hours" solely at the discretion of the rider.
ON ALL 2003-2007 XB MODELS, in all likelihood, the crank assembly...specifically the main crank pin and bearing....will give out long before the "top end" will experience accelerated wear damage.

I got ”problem” on my XB9 when cruising in 80-85 mph in hot weather some days ago, so called skip spark mode for about 1 minute. Any idea why this happened in ”only” 31-32 degrees celsius? I am sure you guys have higher temps in summer and your bikes seem to work fine.

failing ignition coil caused by aging process...excessive resistance at high tension towers(faulty spark plugs and/or plug wires)....which excessive heat in coil area reveals
I did check and made some diagnosis with Ecmspy, no fault codes was stored. Fuel pump are new, but my plug wires are worn and have cracked rubber boots. I have used some electrical insulation tape around them, but i must change them. ETS, is that the heat sensor? I could read in Ecmspy the temperature on the engine. How can i check the Ecm ground?

Ive ran at 90mph for hours on end more times than i can count on my xb12. Bike has 17k miles and doesnt make a single funny sound. Theres no danger in it whatsoever.

here's to hoping you divulged that to the guy in MI you just sold the bike to. a perspective buyer certainly would want to know that.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

In addition to the "thats a lot of service work for only 17k miles". I had to double check the ad to make sure your weren't selling a 1970's Fiat.
