Happy to report the lip is fine, no signs of any crack. Not even any herpes...
The lip even has the factory black paint overspray intact on its surface. Though yes I realize that doesn't indicate much about stress fractures.

The outer ramp has some rough metal, but I'm thinking that's just sloppy casting marks?

Took the bike on a 20 mile shakedown ride (it's a beautiful sunny 70F in NorCal today) and it rode fine. Maybe just some fine tuning on the cable slack.

Not quite sure what caused the initial unhappiness. The cable must have been just barely tensioned enough such that my finesse shifting was able to compensate for it. At least till the point where it didn't...
