Take it to a machine shop and ask them to helicoil it.

Ok wait...isnt that something I can do? I mean, if I eff it up, i can just buy a new cover right? I feel like I watched a few diffefent videos on that when i did the oil drain, but maybe im wrong. Is it cheaper/easier just to have a machinest do it? Or could I give it a go? It looks like i can get one of those helicoil setups, pretty cheap online and even get a whole kit with multiple coils for a hundred bucks or so from summit.

Ok, so i ordered the helicoil...but i have the primary in my cart, incase i mess it up.
If you've never done this before, you'll probably want to practice on a piece of scrap. Replacement coils are cheap.Originally Posted by kdawg302000

FYI, just use one. Seriously, I've seen people try. It seems like its not long enough but don't be tempted to out think it.
1) Drill it square and centered,
2) lube with penetrant or hopefully tapping fluid,
3) put in the tap carefully centered,
4) get it started SQUARE to the hole,
5) if it starts to bind up, back off 3/4" of a turn to clear the chips before going further,
6) clean and degrease well,
7) a couple big drops of red (241) Loctite on the outside of the heli-coil,
8) install with the 'tool' until the end is almost flush with the inside,
9) break off the tip thing
10) Don't mess with it until its dry!
11) re-install according to the steps in the service manual that of course you printed out and have with you in the garage.
12) Enjoy beer while Instagramming pics of your manly repair
Worst case, just practice on a piece of wood or something. You have 10 inserts and burning off one or two isn’t a bad thing if you want to build some confidence and/or experience before doing the real deal. Plus you can buy more inserts (they’re relatively cheap.
If you can’t get under the swingarm with your drill and hit, consider this. Get a pair of matching jackstands and go to Home Depot and get a long steel rod that will fit through the rear axle (as close as possible). Then you can lift the rear end fairly high and still have it fairly laterally secure. If you’re concerned about the axle sliding from side to side, a pair of large washers and some hose clamps can help secure it.
I use this technique for a lot of repairs, especially my S1 which doesn’t like my rear paddock stands.
