    Cooling fan dying

So I was doing the ecmdroid active test for my fan today on my 07 XB12S, because it has only been working intermittently. It sounded weak, but then picked up and ran well I tested it a couple more times and it ran strong. Got the bike up to temp, and let it idle until it got up to the temps where it should go on, and it didn't. When I tested it again, the fan was extremely weak, and stayed weak. I assume it's dying, especially since there was previously a rear rocker box leak, but I was wondering if there's any possibility of un-gunking it, as opposed to trying to find a new one.

Question #1: do you even have a cooling fan on your bike? Perhaps it fell off when you were riding and you didn’t notice?

I would just flush it out with electrical contact cleaner and hope for the best.

If that doesn’t work, Martin and Dris have you covered.

IF you have a fan on your Buell...

Reasons not to replace the fan:

Your cities unofficial motto is: "The city of the Polar bear", and the state flag is also a Polar Bear.
You want the motorcycle to leave you stranded.
You have a ton of extra money, free time, and want to replace the engine.
You are looking for some of that dying thing.

    Reasons to replace the fan:

Your cities unofficial motto is "The city of the SUN" and the state flag is also the ****ing SUN.
    You enjoy inconvenience.
You desire catastrophic and expensive engine failure.
    You're currently avoiding death.

Repair or replace the fan my friend, and change the O2 for a fresh one while you're in there

haha noted cooter. no doubt I'm tackling it, just was curious if anyone's had luck with any kind of cleaning vs. replacing. I gotta replace my regulator anyways so hanging the bike and dropping the swingarm was already gonna happen.

Ol' Phoenix Freddy Sanford has a point. You could try to clean the brushes and internals by soaking it down with aerosol cleaner. Usually the high resistance of an oil soaked electric motor will fry the windings, but if you caught it fast enough that a good cleaning makes it run well, then ya sure, I'd run it too. Air cooled engines are designed to run at super wide temp range so you have some leeway. I think ignition kill is OE set at 305*(!!). But don't try that with your POS Kia daily!

Dang man, a regulator too? When it rains....

Why are you dropping the swingarm to replace the R/R?

Don’t give Pushrod any ideas (kidding!)

Not sure what you mean by R/R, but I'm talking fuel pressure regulator. As for cleaning the fan, I ordered this:

It looks like getting the motor out isn't bad with this little trick:

Rectifier/Regulator - aka that little black box mounted to the front of the bike, that should have been in the LH scoop.
