The SuperTenere is a BIG GIRL... I tried to explain to my buddies why the XT is still a champ adventure sport and why I'd pick it over the GS1200. Try dragging your knee on that GS, you'd hit the beehives long before your pegs got close to the ground. (I don't advocate knee dragging on roads but I can't help myself). I watched a recent large adventure bike shoot out and one of the dudes was wearing a Ulysses Tee-Shirt! That guy knew his ****!
The XT is 14 years old and finding a competent Buell mechanic when hundreds of miles from home is a challenge. I could barely look past the 200KM/150Mile range of the gas tank, with the recent break downs I can't reliably see myself touring on the Buell. I drive a HONDA ACCORD, built proof and no personality :-) The Japanese have long term reliability down pat. If I could squeeze a VSTROM or FIRESTORM engine into the Ulysses chassis??? You are spot on, if I drop the Yamaha I'll have to go to a local bike shop and buy another new bike because the bill will be easier to pick up.
