    '08+ engine into older bike

I'm looking for replacement engines for my '07 Uly with a bad crank. I've got a couple of potential donors. One is an '08, one is an '09. I understand there are significant changes in the engine between the 07 and older and 08 and newer engines. I'm trying to understand what all I would need to put the later engine in my '07.

Here is a list of assumptions:
    Engine
    oil lines
    throttle body
    ECM ?
    Wiring harness ?

Are there other items that will need to go with the '08+ engine as well?

I wouldn't. It makes an inexpensive quick easy job...

Would you mind elaborating? To clarify, I'll be purchasing the entire donor bike for the swap, so all necessary parts should be available.

    Thats different.

If you have a complete '08-up donor. Pull them apart and swap naked frames*. You can leave the front end on yours if it's better, you'll be stripping the harness out of it anyway. The later swing arm/engine assembly will have the right oil lines and bigger cooler, even 2010MY, dual O2's won't matter. Swap the '08 fuel pump into your older frame and that plug won't matter either.

*What state are you in? A salvage engine number on a title will trigger a salvage title in Cali with a VIN inspection (future sale), so it's worth a check on your local DMV laws.

That would essentially be the plan. One of them I'm looking at is salvage. The other one has a good title but is...rough. Neither are Ulys so they'll essentially be complete swaps. It's foolish of me to put all this time and $ into an engine swap. $ would probably be a wash (part out current condition vs selling after engine swap), and I'd be FAR ahead on time just to part the bad Uly and use that money towards an 08 or 09. That's the rational thing to do. For some reason I really want to keep this one alive though.

Missouri. Engine #'s aren't recorded on our titles.

'08 is salvage, so I'll be using my existing frame. But I see what you're getting at.

How different are the swingarms? Donor bike is '08 12R...shorter swingarm than Uly, correct? '08 swingarm is also scuffed up...(see salvage comment above). Will '07 Uly swingarm work with the swap?

Is a full wiring harness swap required? '07 is a Uly, 08 is an XB12R...so different components (ECM etc) in different locations. I suspect the answer is "technically no, but swapping will still be easier than the mods required to NOT swap".

Worth it to buy a '08-up Uly harness because of the ECM location of the "R" and the difficulty to attempt a 07-08 harness upgrade.
