I have an 03 XB9r with 10,000 miles I have only put 900 on it myself. I bought it from a 60 yr old guy that did all the break in and documented everything. But latley I have a knock. Is there a weak point in the 900's?

Well lately I have been running my bike pretty hard.

I went to the drag strip last Friday, and have been doing the whole wheelie thing latley. I only reve the motor to 3500 when I lift the front and at most hit 6000 rpm and not for more than a couple seconds when lifting it 2nd.

My question is, Is the motor that weak that you cant run it hard at all without doing the damage? I run full sythetic oil and it is changed out every 1500-2000 miles. And I just changed it less than 400 miles ago. I dont feel I have been running it into the dirt but is the 900 that weak?

I can only hear it when the engine is running about 3000 rpm but it sounds like the front cylinder.

But not sure due to so much noise when running at that rpm and with the exhaust. I can feel the knock for sure when I am riding it.

    what's the feeling you get?
    loss of power?

in the mean time, i wouldn't ride the bike for now.

I dont get a loss in power I can just here a slight knock that appears to be coming from the front of the engine. Other than that everything runs smooth.

    wouldn't have a clue then...

With that mileage, I would check the oil pump drive gear, cause that's a weak spot for all Buells.
if you need that changed, get the newer berillium one.

other than that I can't think of anything, but I would have it checked.

What octane gas are you using? Low octane can cause knocking. I think all XB Buells have a little rumble/knock at a low rpm. Is it a completely new sound or is it possible you just haven't noticed it before?
