So I dont like the way my header is multicolored and want to do something about it.

I am not interested in wrapping them.

Can they be polished or anything like that.

They can be polished, ceramic coated, wrapped, or replaced.

Edit: I wrote powdercoated, that would be a bad idea

You can take em off get them powder coated or chromed. Depending on the bike's color if its was black like mine I'd go for black powder coat. I'd love to black my engine out too. Like a Night Rod.

H-D sells polish called Blue-Buster or something. It will take the bluing off right before ur eyes. No lies.

Only thing. its messy. its a gel. it splatters & sticks everywhere. so cover up everything.

I polished my headers with sanding sponges and WD40. You can get the sanding sponges from Home Depot, start off the course grit, follow up with medium then fine. Make sure that you keep the sponges wet with WD40 as you work, if you dont you'll just scratch the headers. Once the headers are nice and smooth wipe off with a rag and polish them with Mothers chrome polish or something similar. It takes a few hours to get the headers smooth but its a good project on a rainy day.

By the way, I taped a plastic bag to engine behind the headers to minimize clean-up.

remember that you cant polish all headers...the newer models wont polish because the coating on the pipes are different...i have an 07 and those can be "cleaned" but not polished...i believe the cutoff year is 05

Ceramic is the only way to go! Totally maint. free and if u get them done inside and out, you can grab them with bare hands about a second after you shut your bike off. P.S. I think they can do it in a variety of colors also.

not sure what year you have (different finishes on different years) but Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish works fantastic. i'm not into chrome or super shiny stuff but the more you work with it, the more shine you can get.

i used to use a 3M pad to apply until black then a soft cloth to buff. not hard, looks great and actually lasts a little bit.
