First, I apologize for posting these questions. I ordinarily do a bunch of searching before asking, but I'm suffering from a slow learning curve using this forum.

On the XB models, what hardware/fasteners are metric and what are SAE? The salesman didn't know. I do most of my own repair and maintenance, and have limited SAE tools.

The valves are shown on the spec sheets as "self adjusting." I assume that this means the bike has hydraulic lifters, correct? And "self adjusting" means never needs adjustment?

Is the belt tensioner fixed, or is there some tension spec to which it is adjusted?

The right side (opposite the primary drive) crank cover changed between the 2007 and 2008 models. The salesman says that the oil pump changed. What's the significance of this change, and did he give me a good explanation?

What's involved at the first service, and at what mileage?

That's all I can remember right now. Thanks a bunch for any and all info!

Okay, by "trans," do you mean the oil in the primary case? Does that oil serve the gearbox as well? My understanding is that you use the same grade of oil for both the gearbox and the crankcase, correct?

    Thanks much; keep it coming!

OH! I thought of something else. Is the XB engine a twin-cam or single-cam?

RT, are you advising against using RP MC 20W50?

Way back when I had a CB750 tank, I used Castrol 20W50 conventional. I didn't know better. Besides it was throwing oil like an old Harley.

At my 5K service I went to the HD synthetic. Added about $20 to the service and the Buell mechanic at G'Boro is a Buell owner and enthusiast and recommended it. Knows Buell very well. (He is the one reason I might go back their for service despite the sales guys treating a friend like they couldn't care less if he bought a Buell from them.)
He said that Buells run a bit cooler with synthetic than conventional.

He's saying they have thier head up their butt since their website recommends Max Cyle 10W30 for the Buell transmission.
