Hello, I have been the proud owner of a 2004 buell xb12s for about six months now. The fan has recently ceased to come on after a ride. Until about 3 weeks ago the fan would fire up after a ride like clockwork. I have hooked the bike up to ecmspy, but it isn't showing any trouble codes. When I run the fan diagnostic with ecmspy should it make the fan switch on? Also, if the temperature sensor is bad, shouldn't I get a trouble code? Any input would help.
p.s. no flashing check engine light either.
    Thanks for the help

ECMspy should run the fan for a second. It sounds like you need a new fan. Check the connections first. It may be as simple as a loose plug.

poked around a bit to try and find the connections to the fan. Do I have to remove the rear shock to get the fan connection? Also, shouldn't I receive a trouble code from ecmspy for a bad cooling fan?
    Thanks,
    Kyle

I really don't know about the trouble code. I was able to find my fan plug by taking the airbox off if I recall correctly. It may be different on your S model though. I have an R. If you can find the fan plug, you can disconnect it and use jumpers from the battery to check to see if it's still in working condition.

Use the ECMSPY fan diagnostic to turn the fan on and verify it works. The engine temp sensor might not throw a code if it's just flaky and its voltage/resistance is off a bit. In this case, the fan still works, it just doesn't turn on/off when it's supposed to.

The connector is behind the fan and on the left side of the bike. You can get to it through that loop between the to bolts where the rails connect.
